Education has been a prime sector of focus in India because it will shape and prepare the new generations for the future development of India. But, over the years several loopholes have been recognized in the Indian education sector; the biggest one is the lack of timely updates in the syllabus.
Recently, The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has a mandate document that will guide the way for the development of a new national curriculum framework in India. It will be a document of important pointers outlining the school syllabus of India in the future.
The document will be considered while designing the new school textbooks under the updated national education policy (2020). The policy aims to make essential reforms in India’s education sector. It is headed by an expert committed under former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan, who was a significant figure in planning NEP.
The government aims to instill a feeling of pride and deep-rootedness towards the country in children. Also, the education curriculum might help to develop other important qualities in children in comparison to an otherwise old knowledge-based education model. As of now, 700 focus groups are working on making additions to the NCF because there is an effort to bring them on the same page to strive for the same goals.
As of now, the curriculum framework made in 2005, is followed in India. So, the new curriculum will aim for instilling human values like gender equality and multilingualism in children, increasing foundational literacy, and developing 21st-century capacities like scientific temper, sustainable living, and socioemotional capacities in children. This will not only educate them but even prepare them for challenges in life and getting better employment.
There will be a new curriculum for math, arts, science, environmental science, and other subjects based on Indian roots. Also, it will educate the children about the contributions and achievements of India.
Language in educational curriculum
Another aspect will be language, where English would be a subject and the three-language formula will be executed. Also, questions regarding the flexibility and options given to students regarding language are a part of the document.
The “three-language formula” policy was initially made by the central government in 1968 and even included in the National Education policy of 2020. Under this formula, students will take up Hindi, English, and an Indian or a foreign language based on their state.
What is NEP?
The National Education Policy of India or NEP 2020 outlines the vision for the New Education system of India in the Future. The government aims to take a holistic, flexible, and multi-disciplinary education system to prepare students to compete on the global level. The government plans to set up the NEP by 2040 in India by implementing each point of the plan one by one.
The NCF has an objective to positively transform the school education system in sync with the aims of NEP 2020 which has the vision to improve the quality and stature of Education in India.
Summing up,
This NCF can truly pave the way for an all-around transformation of the students and improve their learning experience. In the past few years, many students have expressed their concern about the lack in the Indian education system in comparison to education in other developed countries. As a result, the government made a NEP 2020 and is making necessary modifications to make it one of the best of the best education systems in the world.
